چکیده

Volume 3 | Issue 2 Abstract Age estimation from tooth – coronal index (TCI) using dental radiographs based on reduction in the size of the dental pulp cavity with advancing age as a result of secondary dentin deposition, has been presented. The study aimed to assess the accuracy of age estimation from TCI of mandibular premolars and molars (except wisdom teeth) of both sides using panoramic radiographs of known age and sex and to develop regression equations that can be used in the Egyptians. The study was conducted on 234 Egyptian subjects (119 males and 115 females) of known age and sex. The length of tooth crown and that of coronal pulp cavity (in mm) of 845 mandibular premolars and 835 mandibular molars were measured. Then TCI was computed for each tooth and regressed on the real age of the sample. The results reveal that the mean ± SE age of the studied subjects is 25.52 ± 0.84 years (ranges from 8 to 74 years). There is no difference in TCI between both sexes. TCI for premolars is larger than those of molars and it is higher in males than females (27.24 ± 0.077 to 28.51 ± 0.755 in females; 27.26 ± 0.748 to 28.66 ± 0.846 in males); and (24.79 ± 0.763 to 28.44 ± 0.680 in females; 24.81 ± 0.835 to 29.45 ± 0.866 in males) respectively. Also there is highest significant correlation of the 2nd right premolar TCI with age (p ≤ 0.05). It could be concluded that TCI method of mandibular teeth was found to be the best radiologic; rapid and non invasive method for age estimation and the regression equations should be applied cautiously for different populations and time periods.

The aim of the present study was to assess the validity of tooth-coronal index (TCI) in the age estimation. This retrospective charts review was conducted at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi from January 2016 to March 2016, and comprised 315 teeth of 80 individuals. The teeth were analysed on Orthopantomogram. TCI was calculated for unrestored mandibular premolars and molars. Pearson\\...

Assessing the Prevalence of Pulp Stones by Cone Beam Computed Tomography in a Population in North of Iran

Background and purpose: Pulp stones are calcified masses in the pulp chamber or root canals. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) can identify crown and root anatomy and also detect calcifications which may help to achieve a better diagnosis. The goal of this study was to determine the frequency of pulp stones in CBCT images. Materials and methods: In this cross-sectional study, 500 CBCT image...

Estimating Dental Age Using the Pulp/Tooth Perimeter Ratio in Maxillary Canines by Digital Panoramic Radiography

Introduction: Teeth can be used to determine age in forensic medicine if none of the other techniques of identification are appropriate. The researchers used panoramic radiographs from patients referred to Yazd Shahid Sadoughi Dental School to determine age using pulp/tooth perimeter ratio. Methods: In this diagnostic study, 800 panoramic digital radiographs were examined and the age of the pa...

Isolation and in vitro Characterization of Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from the Pulp Tissue of Human Third Molar Tooth

Background: It is still controversial that the stem cells isolated from human dental pulp meets the criteria for mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The aim of the present study was to examine whether or not they are MSCs, or are distinct stem cells population residing in tooth pulp. Methods: Adherent fibroblastic cells in the culture of pulp tissue from human third molars were propagated through se...

Canal configuration of mandibular first premolars in an Egyptian population

The purpose of this study was to investigate canal configuration of mandibular first premolars in an Egyptian population. Two hundred fifty human extracted mandibular first premolars were collected from Egyptian patients and a small hole in the center of the occlusal surface of each tooth was made perforating the roof of the pulp chamber. Teeth were decalcified by immersing in nitric acid and d...
